Mortal Kombat 1/Cyrax (Kameo)/Strategy

From SuperCombo Wiki

Kopter Chopper

“Kopter Chopper” is an Ambush assist that calls Cyrax out to perform a spinning blade attack while rising into the air; this will only connect against an airborne or juggled opponent, and will launch them further upwards with a 9-hit spin attack that can be used to extend the kombo (usually with a jump attack). Pressing K to perform the default version will cause the last hit of this attack to knock the opponent forward towards the player, while pressing U+K to perform the “Away” version will knock the opponent back nearly fullscreen. This assist costs half of the Kameo Gauge; holding down the Kameo button during this Ambush startup will deplete the other half of the gauge and change its direction to the Horizontal Kopter for a High attack (generally 4 hits) that will whiff on all crouching opponents, whether holding block or not, but can be jailed into. The horizontal version is highly advantaged on hit and block, both allowing the player enough hitstun to convert into a kombo and enough blockstun to keep them pressured. This assist option also grants all characters the ability to enforce chip damage on blocking opponents, as well as safety via pushback, by allowing players to execute multi-hitting attacks that may normally be unsafe and either confirm into vertical Kopter on hit or horizontal Kopter on block. Both versions of the Kopter Chopper have the same moderate recharge rate, although the default vertical version has a longer cooldown window before recharging the gauge than the horizontal version.

Cyber Net

“Cyber Net” (B+K) is a Summon that calls Cyrax out to shoot a net projectile horizontally towards the opponent, locking them in a “capture” state of stun wherever they are hit onscreen for 5 seconds, and gradually draining their super meter for as long as they are trapped inside the net (before being hit or released). This move is also +1 on block for the first active frame, and gains an additional frame of block advantage for every frame it is active (up to 28 fullscreen), making it very useful to contest the opponent in the neutral at any point on the screen with the dual threat of stun on hit and plus frames on block. Cyber Net gains invulnerability on its first frame when used as a Getup, although the move also has a very slow startup making it easy to counter when used on wakeup. This assist costs half of the Kameo Gauge and will begin recharging the gauge at a moderate rate as soon as the net either connects with the opponent or misses them and becomes inactive.

Self-Destruct

“Self-Destruct” is a Summon that calls Cyrax onscreen to pull a bomb from his chest; the default version (F+K) calls Cyrax out from behind the executing player’s character to place him in front of them, while the “Behind” option (D+K) calls him out onscreen from behind the opponent (usually placing him in front of the opponent). After a slightly fast startup animation, the player is allowed to move freely as Cyrax stands in place charging the bomb, indicated by a green Kameo Gauge that begins gradually depleting. Holding the Kameo button during this charge will allow the player to “Reposition” Cyrax by tapping Forward or Backward. Cyrax will remain charging the bomb until either half the gauge has been depleted (after which the bomb automatically detonates) or the player inputs D+K (which will automatically deplete the gauge down to 50%). This bomb is a Mid launcher that will allow for juggle/air kombo opportunities on hit (and be highly plus on block), although this tool has the ability to damage and launch both players (doing 4% less damage to the executing player); some characters may still be able to connect a kombo on the launched opponent when getting up from the trade animation. If the opponent hits Cyrax once he has pulled the bomb from his chest and begins charging, Cyrax will drop the bomb onto the ground before disappearing offscreen, which poses a risk to opponents attempting to hit the player and/or kameo by leaving them open to the following explosion. The bomb drop can be prevented by hitting Cyrax as soon as he appears (or at least before he has finished pulling the bomb from his chest); unlike other assists, however, the executing player will not take any damage if Cyrax is hit at all during this move. This tool can be especially useful for setting up pressure by placing Cyrax in the desired position by the opponent; one example may include opening the opponent up with a forward unblockable shove while Cyrax is behind them, which can connect the bomb to begin a kombo as well as leave the executing player far enough back to avoid the explosion

Misc. (Forward Throw)

Although his Kameo Throw is one of the least damaging basic Throws in the game (at 10%), Cyrax also has the unique ability to cancel his Forward Throw into a launcher that can easily be jump-cancelled after; pressing Block as soon as he pulls the bomb out in the animation will spend 2 bars of super meter and increase the cooldown period before another Cyrax assist can be called, but will still do the base damage and allow for further kombo damage to be applied.
