Introduction
Hwang is a tricky character with deceptively massive range and debilitating attacks through his talisman stances. However, he literally puts his life on the line as he fights - his very lifeforce is an expendable resource, and if stretched too thin, he will begin rounds with chunks of health missing.

Unique Mechanics
Lifeforce Techniques
Hwang has a Lifeforce counter as as unique UI element, which starts at 4 and can range from -9 to 9. Certain stances and attacks spend Lifeforce while some grant more; he also gains access to different lethal hits at various levels of Lifeforce. However, if his Lifeforce goes into the negative, he will start the next round at a health deficit, ranging all the way down to half health at -9 Lifeforce, where he will also lose half a bar of Soul Gauge.
Talisman Auras
Hwang can also spend his Lifeforce to apply a talisman to himself, enveloping himself in an aura. Each aura changes the properties of some of his moves, causing them to grant different benefits on hit. They also unlock some unique lethal hit conditions per each aura. The auras are as follows:
• Might - A blue aura which revolves around restoring Hwang's guard stamina.
• Devastation - A red aura which revolves around building Hwang's meter (and stealing the opponent's if they are in Soul Charge).
• Resolve - A green aura which revolves around healing Hwang.
• Iron will - A special yellow aura only accessible by ending his Soul Charge. Forces his next attack to be a counterhit on hit. It will also cause certain moves to grant him a large chunk of Lifeforce.
The moves which gain benefits from the auras universally are 6B+K, DW BB_B[B], A+B and his Soul Attack.
See Strategy for a full strategy breakdown.

In such turbulent times when even survival is hard, it is harder still to lead an honest, virtuous life. Though he lost both his parents when young, Hwang Seong-gyeong grew to be a strong, resolute, and righteous man—no doubt because of his intensive longsword training at the Seong Dojang.
Since he was not born with the bones of destiny and thus cannot become an immortal, he does not have a natural talent for Taoist sorcery, but his exceptional strength, muscle, and willpower as a warrior has allowed him to somewhat control divine power—a rare talent that even Soo-hyun finds remarkable. |
