Introduction
In drawing from its roots as a spin-off of a traditional RPG game, Pokken includes many status buffs and debuffs that can be applied to characters. Many characters have the ability to debuff the opponent, a few have the ability to buff themselves, and exactly one can buff the opponent. However, the most frequent source of buffs or debuffs are supports, which either provide a direct buff to their user or an offensive hitbox that causes debuffs. All status effects in Pokken come with a timer that can be affected by certain actions such as Suicune's Up-stance or Chandelure's ]X[ "Disco Inferno", and certain moves such as Croagunk's Thief or Scizor's Bug Bite can change their effects depending on the buff status of the combatants. Buffs come in many distinct varieties.
Attack
An Attack buff increases the amount of damage dealt by 20%.
- Having an Attack buff makes all attacks deal hitstun against Burst Armor.
An Attack debuff decreases the amount of damage dealt by 20%.
An Attack buff / debuff influences the damage of Support Pokemon too.
Defense
A Defense buff decreases the amount of damage received by 20%.
A Defense debuff increases the amount of damage received by 20%.
Having a Defense buff increases shield health, while a Defense debuff decreases shield health.
Speed
A Speed buff increases the walking speed of a character.
A Speed debuff decreases the walking speed of a character.
Moves such as Homing Attacks are affected by a Speed buff / debuff.
Synergy Burst
A Synergy Burst buff increases the amount of damage dealt by 20%, and decreases the amount of damage received by 20% in Burst Mode.
A Synergy Burst debuff decreases the amount of damage dealt by 20%, and increases the amount of damage received by 20% in Burst Mode.
Critical Hit
The All Critical Hits buff is exclusively tied to Victini and Mew.
The No Critical Hits debuff is exclusively tied to Umbreon.
All moves gain additional hitstun when they're a Critical Hit, while certain moves have additional effects as well.
No Synergy Burst
A debuff that is tied exclusively to Yveltal.
The No Synergy Burst debuff prevents the player from activating their Burst Mode or Burst Attack.
The player also receives no Synergy from a Phase Shift (even if they were the one to cause the Phase Shift).
Additional Jumps
A buff that is tied exclusively to Popplio.
The Additional Jumps buff allows the player to double jump in the air. Can double jump in any direction.
Double jump can be used after certain aerials.
No Support
A debuff that is tied exclusively to Decidueye.
The No Support debuff prevents the player from calling their Support Pokemon.
