How do i Hit Konfirm in MKX?

The following text is a guide for beginners on what Hit Confirms are and how to do them in Mortal Kombat X, MKX is a very low visibility game due to its colour scheme so be sure to always be paying attention when hit confirming

What is Hit Confirming?

As definied by Infl's Fighting Game Glossary, Hit Confirming is the act of succesfully seeing wether an attack you made hit the opponent or not and then reacting to it by following up with a combo or blockstring depending on the outcome In this guide i will be talking about all the ways you can hit confirm in MKX for single-hit attacks, multi-hit attacks and strings

Visual Cues

In MKX there are a number of visual cues that let you know if your attacks was blocked or not, they are the following

- Blood Spilling: When any attack hits an opponent they start coughing up blood, a bit of a subtle cue but you will notice it if you play close attention

- Hit Spark: Now this isn't a thing most moves have but some moves when they hit will create a bright visual effect like an explosion or a slash effect, on counter hit these effects will turn red, most of these effects can only appear on hit so they are great ways to hit confirm

- Hit Effects: Every hit has a different effect on your opponent's character, they can curl up in pain or flinch or be pushed back, recognizing these during a fight is vital for hit confirming - Block Effect: Some attacks have lots of pushback or send the opponent stumbling back on block

Sound Cues

Similarly to visual cues, MKX provides sound cues to help you hit confirm attacks

- Small Thud: When an attack is blocked a faint thud sound will play, as if you were hitting a mattress, recognizing this and the next sound are important for hit confirming

- Big Thud: When an attack hits the opponent, a louder version of the previous sound will be heard, as if you were hitting a hard surface, the difference between this and the previous sound are easily noticeable

- Metallic: Some attacks make sounds that seem like a hammer hitting metal when they aren't blocked

- Screams: Most characters scream or grunt or make sounds when they are hit

- Crunching/Slashing: Some attacks like stabs or sword swings will make different sound effects to punches or kicks when they hit

Single Hit Attacks

Attacks with only one hit or no string followups are the hardest to hit confirm

- You must have quick reactions and take mind of the visual and sound cues the most with these

- Most of them can be cancelled into a special on hit so buffer the special quickly if you think it's gonna hit

Multi-Hit Attacks

Attacks with two or more hits in them, usually easy to hit confirm than Single-Hits

- Every hit before the final hit is almost always special cancellable

- If it's unsafe or has a gap on block then try cancelling into a special early into the attack so long as the special is safe

Short Strings

Strings with only two attacks in them, these face a combination of issues fron the last two examples

- If it is safe on block and has no gaps then just do it and block if it gets blocked

- if it is unsafe or has a gap make sure to cancel out of either attack with a safe special

- if you have no safe specials or isn't special cancellable then get good at hit confirming the first attack with the tips mentioned earlier

Long Strings

Strings with three or more attacks in them, the easiest to hit confirm by far

- Always input the first two attacks then wait to see if it gets blocked or not before inputting the third as the second attack is usually safe

- If the second attack isn't safe then either cancel into a safe special or input a safe followup if the string has one

Extra

MKX's input buffer system is extremely lenient so you can always machine gun out a string and then cancel into special on hit or block
