General Tactics

Blackheart is skilled at occupying space through his demon normal moves; hitting fierce or roundhouse summons demons of varying effects. You can use those to keep the opponent busy while building meter and maintaining a lead.

Roundstart

5HK will beat Magneto 2LK at roundstart because Blackheart leans back.

Air Dash

Use BH's airdash to maintain position in the air. HP demons will home into your location, following your airdash.

Team positioning

Point

Standard BH position, BH tends to thrive when the opponent has no meter and he has his assists.

Mid

Less common but BH can be used here for as an assist.

Anchor

Use BH's assist, often used as a counterpick with Inferno to trap opponents.

Picking Teammates

In really broad statements for each, I'd say the three shells with most potential are:

  • Blackheart + Sentinel + (AAA) = Big bodies with high life and the highest potential damage output with relatively easy combos, but inherently weak against Cable and can struggle against good rush down
  • Blackheart + Storm + (AAA) = Good rush down potential and focused around assist punishing and safe DHC's, you can usually keep your team intact and Storm is just good overall especially coming in with meter and backed with potentially two AAA's, but can struggle real bad if the dedicated AAA is killed or snapped in early
  • Blackheart + Cable + (AAA) = Infinites lead to 100% kills if you have meter, most keep away styled, but can struggle to rotate between characters or get the character you want back in if your team order is disrupted or if your opponent knows the situations you need to get your characters in and avoids those

Of course there's more nuance than this, mostly just to get you started, and there are ways to mitigate the downsides

Tips & Tricks

Post-Heart of Darkness Flying Screen Problem

If Blackheart connects with the Heart of Darkness super with non-visible screen space remaining away from him, he will be forced into an auto-dash once the super completes. Very unfortunately, he will be vulnerable during this time and can be punished. Thus you could HoD Cable ... only to have Blackheart dash forward and Cable AHVB'ing that as he recovers first.

To minimize this, Dasrik suggests:

"1. Hold up(back) during the forced dash. This is a simple and reliable method but it won't get Blackheart up as quickly as the second method, so moderately quick Cable players can still shoot you.

2. Do the superjump motion, hard, as soon as Blackheart disappears. This is the quick method, but it's difficult and you only have one or two frames to do it. I'm able to do it reliably enough so that I'll go for HOD on Cable if I need to."

Using sj. LP to cancel flying screen: Blackheart - HOD Flying Screen Cancel DHC
