Where other characters need to be deliberate with their Custom Combo routing, Garuda nets easy confirms and big damage off of just about everything. His routes look like CCs from Alpha 2: Any starter into multiple specials and a big DP ender for the knockdown.

Introduction

Garuda is a bastard.

He's already tremendously strong in EX2+, but EXCEL and how he interacts with the system put him over the top. Where other characters need to be deliberate with their Custom Combo routing, Garuda nets easy confirms and big damage off just about everything. His routes look like CCs from Alpha 2: Any starter into multiple specials and a big DP ender for the knockdown.

  • 5LK > Shuga x N > Kizan just obliterates the opponent.
  • Kara 6HK xx EXCEL gives Garuda an OS Throw Tech, Air Reset, and a High/Low Mixup for one bar.

Despite his tier and shoto normals, Garuda is a very technical character- And he needs to be, if anyone is going to take down Area, Rosso, and Dhalsim! From a safejump, Kara EXCEL gives him a four way mixup: empty low, overhead low, double overhead low and triple overhead low. (Thanks Mizuumi!)

If the setup is done properly, Garuda can force mix with near zero accountability. Counter EXCEL activations don't work out of blockstun, so the opponent has to manually time their activation during Garuda's strings. Mess it up, and they'll eat a counter hit and die.
