About

The ghostly rock star who can charm anyone with her singing!

Ember McLain is a ghostly rock star and a recurring member of Danny Phantom 's rogues' gallery. Using her hypnotic guitar, she gains more power the more popular her performance is. This often leads to schemes where she will hypnotize people to do her bidding using her tunes. However, time and time again, Danny thwarts her plans in the end.

Playstyle

Ember is an all-rounder sword character who generally does well in different areas. She has a simple but strong combo game with her Light Up Air especially being a strong juggle tool. She also has a generally strong neutral thanks to her disjoints and decent projectiles. In addition, she possesses extra depth with her Cheer meter which she fills up as she lands attacks. Once it is filled, you can unleash a powered up version of your special attack separate from your Slime Specials.

If you like keeping it simple, or enjoy a harmonious melody of disjoints and combos, Ember is the name to remember!

Metagame

Ember is ranked 14th out of 29 on the current tier list, in the A- tier.

Ember is a well-rounded character with a lot of versatile tools in her kit. Her guitar basically acts as a sword, being an excellent juggle tool that keeps opponents in her threat range with ease. Ember's attacks also do very good damage, being able to rack up considerable amounts of damage in no time flat. The centerpiece of her kit, however, is her Cheer meter, which gives her access to some deadly options to use against her opponent.

However, Ember does have some noticeable flaws. Her frame data and general speed are rather average as a tradeoff for her range, which means she has trouble escaping combos at times. Her tall frame further accentuates the problem. However, arguably her biggest weakness is her weak recovery: her Up Special is slow, predictable, and has little horizontal reach, which means Ember is somewhat of a sitting duck offstage if she gets caught too low.

For a long stretch of the metagame, Ember has been considered a mid tier character, with the earliest impressions of her even having her be a low or bottom-tier character. However, with strong results in tournament play, opinions on her have significantly improved, and Ember is now considered to be a high-mid or even high tier character, with very respectable results in competitive play.

Strengths Weaknesses
  • GOOD RANGE: Ember's move set not only provides her with big/long hitboxes, but also projectiles she can outspace opponents with.
  • HARD HITTERS: A lot of Ember's moves deal a considerable amount of damage and can kill at higher percents.
  • LACKLUSTER RECOVERY: Ember has a pretty linear recovery and does not cover a lot of distance, you'll often have to spend slime, use an air stalling move or time an air dodge to make it back to the stage.
  • SLUGGISH: Ember is not the fastest character both in speed and frame data, which makes her melee range game not that great.
