Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some frequent questions asked from beginners of the CvS2 community that are answered here.
Q: What is the "CvS2 Bible?"
A: The CvS2 Bible is a Japanese guidebook that contains pretty much every nugget of CvS2 data you can find. A very, very large portion of this wiki was written with the help of the CvS2 Bible. There are scans available online for everyone to view. Download Here
Q: Does this game have a Discord?
A: Yes, you can join Here.
Q: Are there any places I should look to watch footage?
A: For watching high level CvS2 footage, jay_ts has a document which contains all the useful links to channels and direct video links you need, they are organized both by groove and by character so you'll find at least one video that you want to study.
Q: What groove/character should I start playing? There are so many I can't choose.
A: As a beginner, pick you who like. Tiers in CvS2 don't show themselves until you reach a very high level of play and should be of no concern until you get to that level. This also applies to your groove. While some grooves treat beginners better than others, it's important to simply play what you feel the most comfortable with. Eventually, you'll have to worry about your team symmetry and how you'll fight top tiers, but it will take a while for you to get to that point. A good player is more important than a good character, so it's important to build your skills first above all else.
If you are completely unsure, you can just lab random characters in training mode and just see who clicks with you. You can also check individual character pages and see who fits your preferred playstyle. A defensive player would probably love a team of C-Vega/Rolento/Sagat, whereas an offensive player would love a team of K-Akuma/Geese/Blanka. Just mess around with characters and see who you like.
Q: Execution seems pretty hard in this game. Any tips?
A: Practice. CvS2 is not the most beginner friendly game when it comes to combo execution. Even the most simple combos have some sort of tightness to them that requires practice. I would say practice your given character's BnB in training mode for around 10 minutes and get the motions in your head to become muscle memory. Most links in CvS2 are pretty tight too, so you just need to develop good timing. Also, always enable inputs so you can check what you did wrong should you drop a combo consistently. TLDR, practice your BnBs and you'll get the hang of it.
