Story

Shin Akuma (also known as Shin Gouki) is an alternate version of Akuma that has almost become one with the Satsui no Hado, although not enough to lose his humanity. Akuma will only go into his Shin form against opponents he finds to be equal, as he will hold back against weaker fighters. In this form, Akuma is far more competitive and violent, willing to kill his opponents without question. In most games, Shin Akuma is only fightable as a hidden boss, and CVS2 is no exception. He is the secret final boss on the Capcom side, where a dying Rugal infuses him with the power of Orochi.

Shin Akuma is only playable in the console releases of CVS2, and as such, he is banned from almost all tournaments. Even disregarding his console only status, his legality is still questionable. While Shin Akuma has absolutely pathetic health, many of his moves are absurdley strong, his mobility is amazing, and he even has access to a somewhat practical infinite. A properly optimized Shin Akuma would likely be too strong for tournament play even on console tournaments.

Gameplay

Shin Akuma is Akuma on crack. Just about everything Akuma is good at, Shin Akuma makes even better. He is absurdly fast, with his walk speed being faster than many characters runs and his teleport being sped up as well. He still has Akuma's great meterless combos and some nice metered ones as well. His Tatsus are invulnerable and he has a new counter special, giving him a total of 4 meterless reversals. His Misogi super is one of the best in the entire game, letting him whiff punish tons of moves for enormous damage. And of course, he has the double air fireball, a nigh uncontestable projectile that can single handedly win Shin Akuma many matchups. There is no situation where Shin Akuma struggles, he has every tool he could ever need.

Shin Akuma has one fatal flaw, however: his absolutely miserable health. He has about half the health of regular Akuma, who is already the frailest non boss character. Shin Akuma isn't just easy to kill, it's hard not to kill him in two touches. If he eats a level 3, CC, or even a K groove jump-in combo, he's more often than not dead right there. Not even Ratio 4 can save him from TODs against certain high damage characters. As such, he requires an extreme degree of care to play properly. If you can play around this weakness and avoid damage like the plague, however, Shin Akuma is maybe the most oppressive character in the game.


Shin Akuma is a terryfing character that can be almost impossible to approach or prevent from appraoching, but dies if you breathe on him. His best groove is N-Groove.
Pros Cons
  • Super Shoto: Can change his playstyle on the fly to adapt to almost any situation, and is amazing in each playstyle
  • Mobility: With an insanely fast walk speed and many specials that make him even faster, Shin Akuma is frighteningly hard to pin down
  • Air Fireball: A move so good it deserves its own pro. Air fireballs do great damage, are always plus on block, give easy combos, and are extremely challenging for most characters to anti air. Many matchups are won with this tool alone
  • Combos: Has very versatile combo routes with many different enders, and can combo from situations most other characters could
  • Mixups: With great low confirms, overheads, a divekick, a strong crossup, and air fireball, Shin Akuma can easily maul his opponents with mixups
  • Reversals: Counting specials and supers, Shin Akuma has EIGHT different reversal options you can choose from, with it being almost impossible to option select against all of them
  • Amazing Supers: He has a solid combo ender with his shoryuken super, Misogi is an insane anti zoning option that does absurd damage, and Raging Demon is the cherry on top of Shin Akuma's amazing mixups
  • Infinite: Against many standing characters, Shin Akuma can loop j.MP j.236P on them for a very scary infinite. If he can land this, he can easily loop it until death.
  • Frailer Than Paper: With half the health of regular Akuma, Shin Akuma is in immediate danger to blowing up from any mistake. It's laughable how easy he dies to good combos, and it requires him to dictate the pace of the match at all times or die trying
  • Hates Crouchers: Both his tatsu and infinite don't work against crouching opponents, which forces Shin Akuma to go for weaker combos on them
