About
This silly sea star is SpongeBob's bestest friend.
Coming from the SpongeBob SquarePants series, Patrick is the definition of "living under a rock". Literally. Patrick is a dimwitted and lazy sea star from Bikini Bottom who prefers to spend his days relaxing and eating Krabby Patties and ice cream. However, what Patrick lacks in intelligence he more than makes up for in heart and strength. Patrick has been on several different adventures with SpongeBob, always right by his side. From retrieving King Neptune's crown to a simple jellyfishing session, wherever SpongeBob goes, Patrick will likely not be too far behind!
Playstyle
Patrick, much like the first game, is a fairly traditional grappler. Except now he has a table!
Patrick's gameplan is fairly simple and easy to understand. He wants to get in, grab you, and take your stock. That doesn't mean he's useless from far away though: he has been granted a projectile in Aerial Up Light and can reflect projectiles (and even his opponent) with his lariat Neutral Special. He also retains his hugdriver attack, now being his Side Special, and also has a counter in Down Special. While he is most definitely not the fastest character in the game, Patrick has several ways to get in and do damage easily.
If you like playing up close and personal, or taking it slow, Patrick is your man!
Metagame
Patrick is ranked 23rd out of 29 on the current tier list, in the B tier. This is a sizeable improvement over his 24th out of 25 placement in the first Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl.
Patrick possesses a high risk, high reward gameplan with his grab game that allows him to be a threatening character onstage. He also is one of the heavier characters in the game, making him difficult to knock out. Finally, Patrick possesses a very high damage output, which makes him very imposing when he gets in on his opponent.
However, Patrick's not without his flaws. His slow speed and limited recovery make him have to be very patient in order to close the gap against his opponent, and he is fairly limited relative to most of the cast in terms of options in neutral. This makes Patrick struggle against zoner characters and characters that can generally outspeed him.
In spite of this, Patrick has achieved solid tournament representation, and continues to be a viable pick in competitive play, although some believe he is slightly overrated, and is overall much worse with more developed counterplay to his rather linear moveset.

Strategy
Patrick is one of the easiest characters in the game to understand, as his gameplay is fairly linear. You want to get in, do damage, and kill. That's about it. But how do you do that?
Neutral
Patrick surprisingly has a really good neutral tool for his speed and weight class: Table. Up air is one of Patrick's essentials, as it helps him control space from far away, and allows him to get a free approach on the opponent if it hits them and disrupts their gameplan.
Some other tools include:
- Dash Attack is a really good move for skipping neutral altogether, with fast startup and a big hitbox, but it can also be fairly predictable to the seasoned player and leaves him open to getting slime blocked.
- Forward Tilt on the opponent's shield is a solid mixup tool.
- Patrick can sometimes approach with Up Special on-stage, but this is slow and can be punished easily, so only use it if you feel confident in it connecting.
Unfortunately, aside from that, Patrick doesn't really do much in neutral. He's more about the destination than the journey. But if you do get in...
I got in! Now what?
Well, ideally, grab.
Patrick's throw game is very good for setting up his devastating damage. Up and down throw are good starters as they launch the opponent at an ideal angle to get hit by Table, Strong Up Air, or even Hugdriver (side special). Patrick's back throw also kills on it's own at around 90%. Strong Neutral Air will also kill offstage at high %, but it is more risky than Strong Up Air, so use it wisely. Strong Down Air is somewhat of a meme move in this game, so I wouldn't recommend using it.
Unfortunately, Patrick doesn't have much in terms of flashy combos, as he's a grappler. Most of his aerials are heavy-hitting but don't allow him to combo particularly well. Table is the exception, of course, but aside from that you're left with mostly just a simple 2-3 hit combo into Strong Up Air. On the bright side, the damage output by these simple conversions is enough to usually take your opponent out with said Strong Up Air.
Pat-tricks
Patrick's Down Air is downright scary at ledge. It has a rather unusually large spike, and if it connects, it'll send the opponent down close to the bottom blastzone. If you're feeling lucky, go for a second one offstage, and your opponent is more than likely dead.
Patricide (not related to the act of killing one's dad) is one of Patrick's go-tos for stealing games like candy. If you use Hugdriver close to ledge, you can throw yourself (and your opponent) off the stage for a suicide kill. If it's the last stock for both characters, your opponent dies first. Use this to your advantage, as it makes Patrick extremely scary in a last-stock situation.
Help! This recovery sucks!
Patrick has a few mixups to mitigate his rather weak recovery. The easiest one is to mix in Strong Up Air to get a little bit of height, but if you get hit again after the fact, you won't be able to use this move the same way again until you grab ledge.
If your opponent goes offstage to try to hit you, you can also grab them and launch them. If you're close to the stage and your opponent techs, you can humorously sometimes use them as a pseudo-recovery tool.
Table is sometimes helpful for distracting your opponent as you make it back to ledge. You can also throw table from ledge as a mixup, and an easier time getting back onstage.
Counter is sometimes useful for recovering as well against projectiles, as it propels Patrick forward.
Get off me!
Patrick can be combo food against most of the cast, but luckily he has tools to deal with the opponent being in his face too much:
- On the ground, jab and down tilt help control a bit of space and prevent Patrick from getting grabbed.
- Patrick has a solid anti-air in his Neutral and Back Air. Use these wisely.
- Double Lariat (Neutral Special) is extremely good for fending off opponents as well, as it is surprisingly active and has pretty good startup. EX is even larger and does more damage.
- Counter (Dspecial) is a niche option and usually helps fend off opponents who are in your face too much. But it also has a tendency to just send Patrick flying forward instead of connecting, so use it sparingly.
