'''''This sourpuss octopus is always looking for inspiration.'''''
Hailing from the SpongeBob SquarePants series, Squidward is an extremely grouchy and arrogant octopus from Bikini Bottom who believes everyone is an idiot except for him. Stuck as a cashier at the Krusty Krab, he believes he is above that, seeing himself as a masterful artist and musician who will someday be finally be recognized for his talents. Not helped is the fact that misfortune always strikes him, usually caused inadvertently by SpongeBob and Patrick's antics. Despite this, Squidward still has a soft side, and while he wouldn't admit it, he does care a lot about SpongeBob and he's helped out on several of his adventures, albeit unwillingly...
== Playstyle == | |||
Squidward is an oddball character with a ton of amazing tools. He has great damage output, tricky movement, and has some of the best edgeguarding tools in the game. He's a tricky character to learn well, but, much like the character himself, with mastery comes great power, as Squidward becomes one of the strongest air characters in the game.
If you like tricky movement and several strong and unpredictable tools, Squidward is the character for you!
== Metagame == | |||
Squidward is ranked 5th out of 29 on the current [[Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2/FAQ|tier list]], in the S tier.
Squidward possesses one of the best punish games amongst the entire cast. His great aerial game combined with his powerful strongs make him a terrifying threat both on-stage and off-stage. His down special, "You're Annoying Me", only serves to make his punish game even more threatening. Squidward also has a very strong edgeguarding game, with his Light Down Air being very powerful and leads to an early grave. Squidward also as a great recovery, making edgeguarding him very challenging.
However, despite these great strengths, Squidward does have some flaws. His neutral game is below average, relative to most of the cast. This makes it so he has to get up close in order to get his brutal punishes. Squidward also struggles against characters with disjoints. Besides Forward Air, his tools can't realistically compete against some of the best disjoints.
While Squidward's strengths largely outweigh his weaknesses, some believe his weaknesses have yet to be fully countered, with some believing he is an overrated character. Nonetheless, his strong punish game continues to rectify him as a top-tier character amongst the metagame.

|pros= | |pros= | ||
* ''' | * '''Absurd Damage output:''' Squidward can do a crazy amount of damage with his aerial chains in under 10 seconds. And that's without rage!
* ''' | * '''Suffocating juggles:''' Squidward's aerial game is one of the best. He can cover an amazing amount of space and does insane amounts of damage off of one chain.
* ''' | * '''Rage:''' Down Special makes Squidward way faster and stronger. This is integral to his combo game, and makes him absolutely impossible to avoid up close. Count your blessings if he grabs you.
* ''' | * '''Bold and Brash:''' Squidward's Side Special is fairly easy to confirm into and, if the strongest version is pulled, will kill the opponent <70%.
* '''Bike:''' Up special is extremely versatile both as a recovery tool and a movement tool. It can also combo into itself if slime-cancelled, if you're looking for a funny combo.
* '''Meter tank:''' Squidward gains meter very fast due to his combo game, and will usually have at least 1 bar on deck at all times.
|cons= | |cons= | ||
* ''' | * '''Difficult to master:''' Squidward is one of the more tricky characters in the game to maneuver with due to his odd gravity and use of double jump cancelling. Rage makes him fall faster, which accentuates the problem further. In addition, a lot of Squidward's stronger tools require strong knowledge of his toolkit, and are difficult to hit point-blank. Therefore, Squidward requires a lot of time and effort to maximize his potential in the match.
* ''' | * '''Not the best at neutral:''' Squidward doesn't have a lot of far-away options aside from Neutral Special.
* ''' | * '''Meh ground strongs:''' Aside from Forward Strong, his ground strongs are somewhat committal. You might want to use them as a last resort options.
* ''' | * '''Meter-heavy:''' A lot of Squidward's stronger confirms require a slime cancel, which can tank your meter fairly fast if you are reckless.

About
This sourpuss octopus is always looking for inspiration.
Playstyle
Squidward is an oddball character with a ton of amazing tools. He has great damage output, tricky movement, and has some of the best edgeguarding tools in the game. He's a tricky character to learn well, but, much like the character himself, with mastery comes great power, as Squidward becomes one of the strongest air characters in the game.
If you like tricky movement and several strong and unpredictable tools, Squidward is the character for you!
Metagame
Squidward is ranked 5th out of 29 on the current tier list, in the S tier.
