Kouzuki Mio (EFZ)

From SuperCombo Wiki

Introduction

Mio-efz.png

Kouzuki Mio (上月 澪) is an exceptionally versatile fighter who is able to switch between 2 radically different move lists at will. She uses costumes to give flair (and references) to her special moves. When in Short Range Mode, Mio's rushdown game is really good thanks to her fast dashing speed, instant overhead, and damaging combos that provide the fear of being hit. However, she becomes weak to aerial attacks and lockdown styles of play. When she switches to Long Range Mode, Mio's lockdown game is really good with multiple attacks that serve as anti-air, lockdown with her cards and arrows, and long range pokes. However, she becomes weak to rushdown styles of play.

Mio is actually one of the heroines of ONE, a visual novel produced by Tactics in 1998. Mio is a 1st grade student in the same school as Kouhei. She always carries a sketchbook with her since she is mute. Also, her face expresses a lot of emotion, so you can easily tell how she is feeling just from looking. During ONE, [SINGLE HINT SENTENCE]...

Stage: Gymnasium (体育館)

BGM: Smiling in innocence (無邪気に笑顔)

Character-Specific Notes

  • Mio's current mode is shown right below her health bar. Blue text means that she is in Short Range Mode, and red text means she is in Long Range Mode.
  • Mio's Short Range Mode is able to air jump once, and air dash/backstep once.
  • Mio's Long Range Mode is able to air jump once, and air dash/backstep twice.
  • Mio's Long Range Mode is quite slow and has one of the most floaty jumps in the game.

Specials

Costume-Adventurer (衣装・冒険家)

  • Mio dresses up as Indiana Jones and whips the opponent.
  • This move can be useful in certain situations. After connecting with the whip in either the A or B versions, performing the Adventurer input allows three different follow-ups depending on the button pressed. The A version pulls the opponent toward you which can afford you some quick hits, while the B version pushes the opponent away. The C version of Adventurer has no follow through but causes wall-bounce upon which you may capitalize.

Strategy, Tactics, and Combos

Combos

Mio's simplest BnB combo: (Short Range, close) 2A 5BBC 236B 236A. Does about 2000 damage, and doesn't require IC or SP.

Mio's simple corner bookshove loop: (Short Range, close, near corner) 2ABC 214214A [wait until the last hit or whenever you're comfortable canceling it] IC (2B 5C)x[until 70% damage scaling] [Long Range switch] j.BC [jump] j.A j.2BC.

Her air combo is pretty much (Short Range) [jump] j.B [airdash] j.BC [land] 5B(c). This combo can either lead into Mio's 2B 5C corner loop, or can be repeated again to push them closer towards the corners.

A simple yet damaging Long Range combo: (Long Range, close) 5ABC 412A IC 214214A. Higher levels of the Ciel super can be used instead for increased damage.

Short Range Rushdown

Staying on the ground to attack is the best option in most cases. Her jump/air dashing normals can be beat out by a lot of things since they lack range. As far as ground attacks go, rushing with 2A and 5A's until you hit and link into a combo is probably your best bet. Another fairly good rush in would be 662C, you can cancel this into 623A/B, even on block, which can be good if you opponent doesn't know there is a followup. If you don't follow it up with a twirl, there's a ton of recovery time. On hit, you can IC into the air loop mentioned earlier, or link into Mio's 214214 super.

j.C can put your opponent in a good stunblock thuogh which may give you advantage and allow you to follow up with grounded normals. It also provides a good crossup, which you can use for okizeme. For example, as they wake up, j.C crossup over them, then jump back j.C again to put em in block then follow with grounded normals. If you hit a deep j.C, you can link Mio's BnB combo with it, or 236A which you can then IC into an aerial loop.

j.2C can be a good quick overhead if you're close to your opponent. The startup can be pretty easy to see if you do it far away. You'll almost always want to IC this. If blocked, the recovery is horrid, so you'll want to get out of that, but if it hits, it can lead to a pretty strong air loop.
