Shotokan is a style of karate used by a variety of Capcom fighters, most notably Ryu. It is recongnized by fighting game fans that the video game version of Shotokan does not particularly resemble real life Shotokan. The three basic moves seen in fighting game Shotokans are the Hadouken (fireball), Shoryuken (rising dragon uppercut), and Tatsumaki Senpukyaku (hurricane kick). Any character that can perform a variation of these moves is often considered a Shotokan fighter or a shoto-clone. Characters in this category include Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Sakura, Sean, Gouken, Oni, Evil Ryu and to a lesses extent Cyclops, Captain America and Mega Man.
