Sword

Sword is one of the easiest weapons to pick up and do damage with. Very easy combos with insane edgeguarding tools.

Sword
Pros Cons
  • Generally well rounded with very few deadzones.
  • Tons of universal kill confirms
  • Very aggressive playstyle
  • Allows for certain character specific combos
  • Insane Edgeguarding potential
  • Fast Ground Pound
  • Lacks in long range combat
  • Easy to get camped out with weapons with range.

Neutral Light

Swipey Swipe Part II
Damage Startup Active Recovery Var. Force Fix. Force
9.22 ~ 15.19 5 8 15 0 21
  • This is a 2 hit normal, the 3rd hit will only come out if the 2nd hit lands, the 3rd hit is where most of the damage comes from. Very good normal if your opponent is very close. Can also be used to edge guard, very spammable.

Side Light

Don't try this at home kids.
Damage Startup Active Recovery Var. Force Fix. Force
6.76 ~ 18.45 9 23 17 0 61
  • This normal is very active, and can be chase dodged to be followup upon with something like nlight for instance. if you chase dodge and then do this move you can cover nearly half the stage.

Down Light
SwordDLight.png
Watch your toes.
Damage Startup Active Recovery Var. Force Fix. Force
8.29 ~ 9.77 8 7 3 0 80
  • This normal is Sword's main combo tool, which is why its damage is very low, it can followed up on with multiple options, or if you're more reactive, you can try dodge read their next option. This normal leaves you slightly airborne.

Sword Aerial Normals

Neutral Air

Protecting The Face
Damage Startup Active Recovery Var. Force Fix. Force
13.82 ~ 16.28 14 3 24 36 50
  • This move is a great anti air, however you arent really gonna get much out of this move.

Side Air

Batter Up!
Damage Startup Active Recovery Var. Force Fix. Force
13.82 ~ 16.28 12 3 30 0 75
  • Sword's best aerial, a great kill confirm and really most of your time using sword in the air is going to consist of this move.
5A
Down Air
SwordDair.png
Protecting the toes.
Damage Startup Active Recovery Var. Force Fix. Force
14.74 ~ 17.36 15 3 24 32 52
  • Great Edge Guarding tool, bounces up the opponent if they are on the stage for potential followup.
5A
Ground Pound
SwordGP.png
AHHHHHH
Damage Startup Active Recovery Var. Force Fix. Force
20.27 ~ 23.87 12 63 22 44 50
  • Ground Pounds last for however you're holding the button and will stop until they either hit something or until you let go. You can get followups from this ground pound, and is bound to kill off stage at mid to high %'s. However, due to it's skinny hitbox it is prone to whiffing so you'd be better off using Dlight instead of GP.

Recovery
SwordRec.png
We Zoomin
Damage Startup Active Recovery Var. Force Fix. Force
1 ~ 19.53 9 14 14 42 55
  • Recovery is a great anti air for opponents for right above you. It gives you a good amount of height to get back on stage, This a multi hitting recovery so to get max damage they would have to get all of the hits, this is a viable kill confirm, and can be combo'd into.

Dlight to Sair

This is sword's B&B, most of your damage will most likely come from sair or dlight to sair, not to mention it's a great kill confirm.

Dlight to GC Nlight

Another great combo that is fairly simple that can be performed at any percent, however this is probably only best for low percents and any other time you'd be better using sair.

Dlight to Nair

In all honesty, this combo isnt really the most useful one, mainly because nair doesnt really kill all that often, and in the percent that it does kill, you'll end up killing with nearly anything else.

SwordCombo4.gif

Dlight to Rec

This is another great kill confirm for sword if you are at the middle of the stage and not sure if sair would kill at the distance that you are. I don't recommend doing this one on a stage with a high killbox.

SwordCombo5.gif

Dlight to Dair

This is another great B&B for sword, good for building momentum and damage. You can chase dodge after this to get better followups

Basic Gameplan

The main thing you're doing with Sword is consistantly rushing down your opponent and not leaving them much time to breathe. Constantly in their face, Slight is very good and you can chase dodge Nlight for a good dodge read. Weapon Throw is very useful for sword for stopping any pressure they attempt to put on you. Sair is your best friend here as well.

Edge Guarding

Sword's Edge Guarding is insane, using dlight with it's slightly disjointed hitbox will allow you to edge guard with ease, ground pound is quite fast, but you'd be better off using weapon throw. If you don't want to take the risk of going off stage to edge guard, staying on the edge of the stage, and rotating between options like Nlight, Sair and Dlight, should easily do the job well.
