The fighting game genre was certainly not my first choice when it came to gaming. My first fighting games ever was "Street FIghter: Third Strike", it wasn't one of those "fall in love with first match" type of games for me, in fact the only fighting game I actually enjoy at that point in time was the Smash Brother series. However I wasn't completly oblivious to all fighting game news, even though it was a genre that I could never adjust to, but I still followed up on most things related to street fighter. There was a long "dip" on the fighting game genre after "Street FIghter 3", then I saw "Street FIghter 4", as you can imagine the switch up in the art direction caught my interest (as it did many other fans), so I decided to switch it up from my everyday Action\Adventure games and Give fighting games another try. Street FIghter 4 WAS a "fall in love with the first match" game for me. The art was more than good, the fighting was great and after playing one match with my life long favorite character, I instantaneously became addicted. Vega, yes Vega, my main charector in Street FIghter 4, I have this certain "appreciation" for the under-used charectors, I played as him day and night, mastering every combo I could, some days where successful while others, not so successful. All in all, Street fighter 4 was the "gateway game" too all other fighting games I would also learn to love (including Super Street Fighter 4, Ultimate and Vanilla Marvel VS Capcom 3, Street Fighter X Tekken). After playing eachwoulda very charector for about a week I would finally choose my main charector, it always seemed to be a charector who was very "under-used" by the fighting game community. For Street Figter 4 I would use Vega to gracefully finish off each opponent, When it came to Marvel VS Capcom 3 I would put all my power onto Thor to trick my opponent into allowing a one combo beat down, for Street Fighter X Tekken I would use Cole (A personal favorite "Infamous 2") to play a keep away game until they came close, then I would pull out Vega to use Close and quick combo's. Of course I faced lots of defeats from many higher and more experienced players in all the games I player, I would usually look at it as a challenge to become better than the opponent. Fighting games hold a special place in my gaming heart, it is a genre like no other.
