UMVC3:PS/FAQ

From SuperCombo Wiki

I'm new, where do I begin?

Getting Started

Welcome to the Palette Swap FAQ page! If you're new to UMVC3 as a whole, I highly recommend familiarizing yourself with the Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 FAQ. It's a great resource to learn the basics of Marvel 3, and the page that this page was based on!

How do I Download Palette Swap?

Now, if you're familiar with Marvel 3, but don't know where to begin about downloading the mods, don't fret! I've got a step-by-step guide here for you to follow, which will ensure that the mods run correctly!

Step 1.) Open up Steam, go to UMVC3, and click on the gear. Open up the Properties menu.

Step 2.) In the Properties menu, go to Local Files, and click Browse. This will open up your file explorer to where all the important files for UMVC3 are.

Step 3.) In the file manager, make a copy of your "nativePCx64" folder, and save it somewhere you won't lose it. THIS IS WHERE YOUR ORIGINAL SAVE DATA IS.

Step 4.) Now that you have your base game's save data saved, we can start to download & install the mods! first of all, ensure that you have a program like 7-Zip on your PC to extract the mods after you download the modpack.

Step 5.) Now that you've got the tools to extract the modpack, now we need the modpack! This page on NexusMods has Google Drive links to both the full modpack, as well as a hotfix if you already have the last patch of Palette Swap. Once the modpack is installed, open up your extracting software of choice, and extract it somewhere you won't forget about it (I used my desktop for example).

Step 6.) Open up the extracted modpack, and extract 3 files from there to the UMVC3 local files; nativePCx64, dinput8.dll, & characters.ini. When prompted to replace files, allow it to replace the files.

Step 7.) Congrats! If you've done everything right, you should have successfully modded Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, and added both the clone engine and ~30 characters to your game! You can access these characters by scrolling up from the top of the screen (up from Jill, Firebrand, Strider, Ghost Rider, Nova, Shuma, or the random buttons), or by scrolling down past the bottom (Hsien-Ko, Haggar, C.Viper, Ammy, Phoenix, Magneto, She-Hulk, or Taskmaster).

What if I wanna uninstall Palette Swap?

If you ever want to revert to vanilla UMVC3, all you have to do is open up the Properties menu again from Steam, go to Local Files again, and this time, click on Verify Integrity of Local Files. This will detect that you are missing files from the base game, or have extra files, and will default your game to the way it was when you installed it.

What do my characters do?

If you're having difficulty learning your characters moves, and this wiki isn't currently up-to-date, don't worry! Tabs included images of the characters' movelists in the modpack, in a folder called "Movelist Images". How difficult to find. The only one that's not exactly very informative at this moment is MVC2 Sentinel, and, well...that one explains itself.

Where can I play this with other people?

At this time, I only know of one tournament by name: the Havengers discord runs a Palette Swap tournament through Parsec every Thursday evening (usually 7:30 PST), and streams it on the twitch channel with the same name. However, as the community grows, this section should be updated with more and more groups running tourneys on their own schedules! Additionally, we would also love for you to share this with local friends!
