It appears that some ranged attacks aren't a series of projectiles in a line that can be destroyed along that line. Moves like Storm's Whirlwind, Hulk's Gamma Wave, and Felicia's Sand Splash appear to generate a stationary projectile at each point along the line. Destroying a projectile earlier in that line has no effect on later ones. This is part of why these attacks seem so durable. Other projectiles seem to continually refresh themselves in place, like Dante's Jam Session, Twister, and Tempest, and Dormammu's Dark Hole and Purification. While it takes 2 arrows from Taskmaster's Aim Master to destroy a single dagger from Arthur's Dagger Toss in Golden Armor, Jam Session can destroy all 3 of his arrows because it continually renews itself, but it loses to the single, higher durability dagger.
Some projectiles are also multi-stage. Arthur's Fire Bottle Toss includes both the bottle, which is a projectile with low durability, and the flame, which only appears if it hits the ground. Phoenix's fireballs explode when they are destroyed, and the explosion can destroy projectiles, as well.
Additionally, to make things more confusing, some projectiles continue their visual effects even after they've been destroyed. Beams tend to be this way, and also Phoenix's Phoenix Rage hyper continues to show the firebird flying across the screen even after it's been destroyed by Genmu Zero.
