Numeric Notation
DOA5LR uses the numeric notation to signify the directional buttons being pressed. This notation is represented on the chart above and is used to note both movement and the directional buttons being pressed when performing strings.
Button Notation
DOA5LR is a 3-button game, meaning you can play it with as little as 3 buttons + directional inputs. The buttons used in DOA5LR use the following notation:
- Punch Button
- Kick Button
- Hold/Block Button
- Throw, which can be performed by either pressing Punch and Hold buttons together or by using a macro.
In the case of some moves, buttons can be held down to charge them, granting additional properties while increasing the startup.
Strings
Unless otherwise stated, a sequence of buttons happening one after another assumes a neutral "stick" position (5) in order to make long sequences of buttons easier to read.
5
To use an example, the above sequence should be read in the following way: 5555

As another example, this sequence should be read as: 5565
