Introduction

MvC2cable.png

Cable is the son of Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Madelyne Pryor (AKA the Goblyn Queen, a clone of Jean Grey produced by Mr. Sinister). Infected with a techno-organic virus by Apocalypse as a baby, Cable must use his telekinetic powers to keep the virus from ravaging his body. Thus in one of Cable's win poses, his arm succumbs to the virus and deforms.

The Psy-Charge is generally considered to be one of the most insulting moves in the game. In Florida you had to pay your opponent a quarter if you got hit by it. It is hard to combo into, but can be used as a poor anti-air in some cases. Note that Cable stays in a special post-Psy-Charge stance after this completes until you perform any other move.

Cable's legs are mostly invulnerable during a Hyper Viper super. This is probably just a poor hit-box as opposed to intentional design. Most MvC2 players will tell you, the Hyper Viper is the best Super Projectile. It can be initiated while on the ground or in the air, it is the fastest connecting Super Projectile in the game, and it does a great deal of damage. Also if your opponent has 2 or more characters on the screen, they will all be vulnurable if they are in the beam's general location across the length of the screen. (Maximum damage is achieved by alternately pressing both punch buttons quickly to increase the beam's wave frequency.)

You can continue to attack your opponent during Time Flip, but it is possible to knock them out of the Time Flip auto-combo. You may not use Hyper Viper or assists until the auto-combo completes. A common way to extend the Time Flip is to throw a Electrap grenade for the opponent to land on.

His B (anti-air) assist is considered his best assist, mostly because of his ability to use it as a counter and cancel into Hyper Viper. The A (projectile) assist can be used when more of a ground game is needed, and the Y (variable) assist can be used as a surprise assist.

Advanced Strategy

How to AHVB inside HSF

Sal's advice:
Devices required:

  • One Hori Real Arcade Joystick ("Green Goblin" - my favorite since I live here in Japan) or Joystick of your choice
  • One PS2 Original Analog Controller
  • NOTE 1 Turn off vibration mode!
  • NOTE 2 Button configurations (Square = Light Punch, Triangle = Heavy Punch, X = Light Kick, Circle = Heavy Kick) Variations can change. However, since I'm right handed, I find it easier this way.

How I do it is...with my left hand middle finger, I hold back on my Hori (Green Goblin)...Of course, standing up; Never crouching...during this time, I have my left hand thumb on the left Analog Control Stick (no vibration setting)...then with my right hand middle finger, I tap the green triangle (beam) followed by the blue "X" and red "O" into HSF. So the actual HSF is done with my right hand index and middle finger; and left hand thumb doing the half circle.

Then once this is done, I'll drop the Analog controller, push block and PRESTO!...AHVB inside HSF. Being that I'm right handed, I find it much easier to have Cable on the left and Sentinel on the right.

This may be a little on the lame side, but hey, at least I can do it now. It's a real intimidating factor when your playing against Sentinel players. I find it now, they really try not to HSF against my Cable anymore. And if they do, they will add Storm's or Magneto's assist. But never never do they try beam or rocket punch followed by HSF. Enjoy and Good luck!

Fun stuff

Taunt loop

Keep pressing Taunt (start) and Cable will keep twirling his gun. Note that this doesn't work on the Xbox 360 or PS3 versions.
