Introduction
The newest Mortal Kombat is actually the 9th game within the series. Just like the first game it is simply known as "Mortal Kombat" and features a return to the game's original roots. The gameplay consists of very detailed 3D models, with fighting animations based off of live action motion capture. Unlike the more recent games, Mortal Kombat returns to a 2D fighting plane. In another nod to the original series the story for this game actually takes place as an alternate version of the events that occurs within Mortal Kombat 1-3.
Characters
Exclusive Characters
Kratos is a character only available for the PS3 version of Mortal Kombat. There are no exclusive characters for the Xbox 360. Since Kratos is a character owned by Sony, it is unlikely he will ever be available on other systems. As a result, he is likely to be unavailable for tournament play.
Hidden Characters
At this time, the only known hidden characters are Cyber Sub-Zero and Quan-Chi. They both appear as visible characters on the bottom row of the character select screen.
DLC Characters
At this time only two downloadable characters are known, Kenshi and the Lady In Red (aka: Skarlet/Scarlet)
