Introduction

Bryan, a shady former Hong Kong police officer who died in a shoot-out, has been revived by Dr.Abel to steal data from his rival, Dr. Bosconovitch. Bryan is entering the third King of Iron Fist tournament in order to fight Yoshimitsu, a known acquaintance of Dr Bosconovitch, in order to collect this data.

While lacking the Jet Upper of newer games, Bryan can command a powerful keepout game with his CH launching f+4 and long df+2, while making the opponent vary their approaches with his classic Orbital (u_uf+4) and Snake Edge (df+3) and punishing whiffs hard with Mach Breaker (f,f+2).

Strengths Weaknesses
  • Mixups: Snake Edge (df+3) and Orbital (u_uf+4) form a powerful mixup that defines Bryan, even in newer titles.
  • Keepout: Bryan's Magic 4, Mach Breaker (f,f+2) and approaching d+3 are a set of annoying pokes that can aide Bryan in running away with a life lead, using his opponents impatience to create openings.
  • Jab Strings: 1,2 and it's many followups can help scare opponents into swinging, with the tricky low hitting 1,2,3 and 1,2,1,4 and the safe on block 1,2,1,2.
  • Lacking standing block punishment: Many of Bryan's fast launchers are only available from a Crouch Dash or while rising, limiting his ability to block punish when standing.
  • Execution requirement: Having a Sway, Bryan's Korean Backdashes have to be clean. Similarly, to punish a lot of moves, a clean unbufferable qcf or f,f motion is required, adding some precision to Bryan's gameplay.
