Overview

Cleetus on paper seems like a very powerful character; he has long combo strings that lead to big damage. The issue is that all of his interesting combo strings seemingly switch between mids and lows very other hit, allowing ample opportunity for your opponent to counter out of the combo. As a result, Cleetus has to adopt mixup-based staggered hits game plan to get into the mind of his opponent and punish their defensive habits. This is helped with the amazing frame data of some of Cleetus's moves such as Low Outhouse, which has enough plus frames to attack with another crouching attack or a mid without having to worry about your opponent hitting you out of it with their 4f jab.

Cleetus also has access to some great special moves you can abuse for fun and profit - Over The Barb has some invulnerability making it a great move to attack through pressure, Dashing Elbow has great range and active frames to reward good spacing, and Backwoods Beating has a crazy amount of invulnerability.

At a glance:
Pros Cons
  • Frame advantage: Moves like Low Outhouse and Middle Outhouse are very plus on hit, allowing you to continue pressuring your opponents with low/mid mixups up close.
  • Powerful specials: Cleetus has a variety of special moves that offer good range, invulnerability, and juggle conversions.
  • Amazing wake-up attacks: Cleetus's high launcher and low sweep recovery moves both lead to juggles and great damage.
  • Hard to juggle: Cleetus's vertical hitbox while he's being juggled is quite small. For example, Tormentor is completely unable to do any wall combos against Cleetus after a Charged Punch.
  • Easily counterable: Cleetus has a lot of highly damaging combo strings, however all of them have several opportunities for your opponent to counter out of them.
  • Reliant on staggers: Cleetus doesn't have a high-damage punish combo like Belladonna or even Imp have, so you have to rely on constant staggers and moderately low damaging juggle strings.
