Debuting in Super Mario Land 2, Wario initially serves as a petty adversary to Mario who steals his castle to claim it for his own. After being thwarted by Mario, Wario goes off on his own to claim riches and fortune, leading him on a series of wacky adventures. In the current day, Wario serves as a mean-spirited rival to Mario who doesn’t usually act in the antagonistic role, as he has become a hero in his own right. However, Wario’s lust for wealth will always be his defining quality.
Wario is one of the more strange characters in P+, serving as a completely new archetype of character compared to Melee. Being a heavy yet floaty character with great air mobility, Wario has a lot of similarities to Jigglypuff, however he has his own unique quirks that separate him from the pink puffball, such as his amazing combo game.
Strengths |
Weaknesses
|
- Incredible Air Mobility: Wario’s horizontal Air mobility is unrivaled, allowing him unparalleled access to mobility options not available to other characters.
- High Damage Combos: Each move in Wario's kit ties into each other very well, and on a good hit confirm he’s able to get a lot of damage on an opponent.
- Great Mix-ups: Wario has a lot of ways to open up the opponent, with his aerial command grab Chomp being an especially good option.
- Good Kill Moves: Wario has a multitude of powerful kill moves which can finish off opponents.
|
- Lack of Out-of-Shield Options: Wario does not have many fast moves which allow him to escape from pressure easily.
- Matchup Dependent: All of Wario’s combos and kill confirms are heavily matchup dependent, with floatier characters being especially tricky for him to deal with.
- Stubby: Wario is a fairly short ranged character, having no extended hitboxes or disjoints. This puts him at a disadvantage against characters with disjoints such as sword fighters.
