- Great Rushdown: Sonya's pressure consists of sweeps, crouching LKs, kara jabs, extremely fast knee staggers and difficult to anti air jump punches.
- Safe Sweep: Sonya's sweep is completely safe on block. Sonya can counter glitch jabs easily using sweep.
- Fast Normals: Sonya has the fastest normal attacks in the game on average. Sonya's knee is safe on block and is an extremely fast stagger.
- Glitch Jab Launcher: Sonya has a launcher (HPHPuLP) that begins with HP, so it can be glitch jab option selected.
- Great Crouching LK: Sonya's crouching LK can make many jump attacks completely whiff. Sonya's crouch LK has enough range to do 3 on block. Generally, other characters can only do 2 crouching LKs on block.
- Near Universal Relaunch: Sonya relaunches Female Ninjas, Stryker and Sindel with Glitch Cancel. She can relaunch every other character no matter what.
- Small Running Hitbox: Sonya is one of the few characters who can run under instant air projectiles like Kabal's instant air gas blast or Mileena's instant air sai.
- Crouching Corner Traps: Sonya can corner trap Jax, Kabal, Kano, Lao, Robots, Shang and Sheeva crouching.

- No Sweep Punish: Sonya does not have a special move that punishes sweep. Sonya relies on running in and using auto combos to punish sweeps at close ranges.
- Weak Punishment Mode Combo Damage: Sonya's optimal Teleport punish only does around 40%.
- Poor Jabs: Sonya has poor LP jab range and priority. She relies on crouching LK and sweeps force glitch jabbing opponents into blockstun.
