Introduction
(not final) Scizor is a Power character who uses his tricky movement and unique punish tools to deal incredible damage in seemingly unlikely situations. His Hover Dash, Hover Turn, and Hover Glide allow him to enter his desired range with little trouble and retreat when things get too risky. In Field Phase, Scizor has surprisingly good zoning tools. He can lay his infamous nY staples to force the opponent out, and punish many attempts to shift the phase with his low and mid-crushing b[Y]. In Duel phase, Scizor can cancel many options into his dashes, and act out of them very quickly. Not only does this let him threaten a lot of mixups with little commitment, it also nets him some of the best bait-and-punish setups in the game. Scizor’s Bullet Punch and advancing Hover Dash attacks let him punish his opponents for 200-300 damage from half the screen away. This gives Scizor some of the most threatening mid-ranged play in the game.
Scizor does still have his flaws however: His most important extensions and punishes cost one of two stocks of his unique resource Swords Dance. While Scizor has a very threatening mid-range with a stock of Swords Dance, his damage is very lacking without one, and his key punish tool Bullet Punch will not start a combo until he has one. Scizor also has very poor close range frame data, with almost all of his few safe moves being lows or highs. In addition, Scizor performs poorly at long range in Duel Phase, with only one projectile that’s very slow, costs a stock of Swords Dance, and is easily avoidable. Scizor needs to fight for his Sword stock and quickly find his place on the stage in order to do well, which proves to be easier said than done.
