Introduction

Pick Hwoarang if you like: Avoid Hwoarang if you dislike:
  • Aggressive Pressure. Perfect for players who enjoy offensive momentum and like breaking down defensive opponents with constant pressure and mix-ups.

  • Style. Hwoarang's design, moves, and animations are all incredibly flashy and imposing.

  • High Mobility. Hwoarang's Mishima-style wave dash and RFF backdash give him above average movement.

  • BIG Damage. Strong wall combos and punishes can quickly shift a round.

  • Depth. Hwoarang's movelist, stances, and execution, rewards investment and lab work more-so than other characters.
  • Multiple stances. Hwoarang revolves around his four stances: Left Foot Forward, Right Foot Forward, Left Flamingo, and Right Flamingo.

  • Large movesets. Hwoarang feels like having access to four characters at once, with each stance offering a full moveset.

  • Below average tracking. Many of his key attacks are linear and susceptible to sidestepping.

  • Pressing a lot of buttons. Sustaining optimal play in long sets can strain your hands if untrained.

  • Heavily Knowledge Dependent. Playing him well usually (not always) requires solid knowledge of stance transitions, frame data, and setups. People who don't know the Hwoarang matchup will often be easily beaten by him.
